bmjokerJoker seemed to have been defeated at the end of DEATH OF THE FAMILY, but the truth is that the clown is a part of the Batman mythos from beginning to end.  At least that is what writer Scott Snyder revealed in a panel yesterday about his run on the current BATMAN: ZERO YEAR storyline.  Here are a few things he let out for the fans to figure out.

…Snyder narrates a page from issue #23, out Aug. 14, with Bruce Wayne confronted by The Red Hood Gang. There are a lot of secrets revealed in that scene, Snyder says…

In another part of the panel, Snyder continues:

…Issue #23 will contain a scene between Bruce Wayne and Alfred that Snyder says is “very personal” to him.

“Our Alfred is saying, ‘Bruce, you need to mean something. You need to matter,” Snyder explains.

In regards to any possible Joker connection, Snyder says the villain is a key part of his overall vision for Batman. “He haunts Batman forever. He haunts this story, and every story.”…

And finally, the burning question:

…Does the Red Hood Gang play into the origin of The Joker? Snyder: “You’ve got to read #24.”

Well, I guess the Jokerholics will have to wait a little longer to see how he fits the Joker in the ZERO YEAR storyline, and makes me wonder if he’s going to favor any of the tens of previously told Joker origin stories to tie him to this stage of Batman’s crimefighter life.  We’ll wait patiently Mr. Snyder, your talent has not disappointed us yet

OH AND DON’T FORGET that Joker will have a small cameo September’s VILLAIN MONTH  in a new (?) Joker/ Batman story set to develop in  the pages of BATMAN #23.1

Funko is releasing another series of figurines from the DC Universe.  This time it is Gotham theme as they release a series of 20 different figurines ( about 2-3 inches tall) packed individually.  The only draw back of the whole series…you’d never know which figure you’d be getting until you open each box.  Anyways, they are ready to pre-order HERE  ($6 each or $125 whole case) and I think that the series looks very cute as a whole.  The series includes:

  • Three Random Blue Costume  Batman figures
  • Three Random Black Costume Batman figures
  • Three random Classic Joker figures
  • Three Random Dark Knight Joker figures
  • Three Random Batgirls figures
  • Two Random Penguins figures
  • Two Random Catwoman Figures

Yep, it’s true….BATMAN 1966 IS BAAAAACK!

batman-66a-625x443

The guys at DC just have annouced they are bringing the campy 1966 Batman series as a digital comic.  Here is the official report

The announcement came last night in Hollywood, …

…Inspired by the television series, which aired from 1966 to 1968 on ABC, Batman ’66 is written by Jeff Parker and illustrated by Jonathan Case. In an ironic turn, Michael Allred, whose Adam West/Batusi cover (below) couldn’t be used for DC’s Solo because of legal issues, will be providing the cover for the first issue. Like the DC’s other digital-first comics, Batman ’66 will be collected monthly in print.

“The juxtaposition of offering a retro Batman ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun,” DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson said in a statement. “DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new Batman ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners.”

(I don’t know about this (don’t even understand DC’s thinking pattern either), but wonder what Cesar Romero would think about this if he was alive…after all he was the FIRST Joker….)

mynycclogoLiterally Jokerholics.

If you want something really bad, you have to be swift, and sneaky…at the same time be VERY patient.

First it started for me early.  Even though today all main attractions (and mostly I am talking about the exhibit show) started at 3 pm, I was there at 11 and the line was already building up.  It was fun to talk to other fans, but it was even more fun to see what boredom and anxiety makes some fans do.  Let’s just say we had a lot of fun in the waiting line.  Everyvody was a real trooper, and made the wait tolerable.

THE DOORS OPENED AT 2:45 and it’s a run to the booths for the so desirable collectibles.  My first stop was at the DC booth to get my copies of the NYCC Exclusive Batman 13 Die Cut cover.  While I just needed a few copies, for friends and family…I saw people buying hundreds of copies, literally.  For a moment I was concerned about the stock of covers, but DC was prepared for the contingency. Also got my wristband to have Scott Snyder sign my copies in the evening…

Then ran to the ZAPP booth to get my second target: A NYCC Bearbrick TDKR Joker figure.  Along with him, I found a NYCC exclusive Funko Pop! Marvel Wolverine Bobble-head brown costume that was just too cute to ignore.

With some time to spare, ran through some booths that I know always have some good stuff…and had to take some home:

1.  Some nice Joker and Harley Quinn magnets:

2.  A super cute LEGO Super Heroes Loki keychain:

3.  Two art prints of Joker and Harley (post pics tomorrow since the prints are too large to use my scancam app with it…)

4. Set of two Joseph Campbell sketcbooks signed:

My Lair’s friends INVISIBLE JESTER89 and PSY YAMANEKO  have come forward with the great news that JOKER will be in the new game of INJUSTICE: GODS AMONGST US and were kind enough to supply links to the picture that has leaked (check the comments HERE).  His new look shows promise, let’s just hope that they find a fitting voice to play him.  I personally vote for Joe DeMaggio, but I might be biased.  In the meantime, here is the pic:

For those who, like me have a hard time reading the Joker’s profile from the screen…here it is:

JOKER

Criminal clown with extremely violent tendencies. Known for his high intelligence and expert fighting skills.

Special care should be taken upon aprehension as he has repeatedly escaped detention facilities.

During psychological interviews he has been shown to be a high functioning psychotic.  Treatments have failed to produce any promising results.

His crimes include:  terrorism, murder, arson, larceny, robbery, racketeering, kidnapping, torture and jaywalking.

Joker wonders why  Spiderman and not him gets a reboot on the big scree,  when he made a million times more money than Spidey’s last movies.  This clown just wants some more screen time…he has earned it.

I enjoyed my day at the COLISEUM OF COMICS in the Fashion Square Mall.  This is my comic headquarters, and they were just amazing.  There were cosplayers, face painting, an amazing penciller,  and tons of people along with some card gamers on the back.  Tons of activity and tons of people having fun. I know I had tons of it…even got some stuff for my nephew.  For now, here are some pics for you to enjoy!

A “taste” of the people that attended the event (and this was the low of the day…can you imagine when it was even busier?)

Face painting (happy to see that Joker has not been forgotten)
