So this is my  second post on the new Bolland book, with art that is not Joker-centric.

The Book is really awesome.  So much art to enjoy….the pages are populated of as many graphics as his other book THE ART OF BRIAN BOLLAND.  First I have to say that I love the art on both the dustjacket and the actual hard covers. While Joker is in both the back and the front of the dustjacket, the front of the hardcover has a beautifully done inked portrait of Sgt. Rock (see thumbnail below),  and on the back the inked cover of THE INVISIBLES #4.

The art is organized by character for the most part. There are anecdotes for each project, told by Mr. Bolland himself that are quite enlightening and entertaining, adding to the dimension of his work.  Here are just a few previews of the art in the book.  To enjoy them all, please buy the book.  You will not regret it.

It will enrich any art collection.

Gabrielle Dell’Otto has been one of my favorite European artists for a long time.  His artistic introduction into the US was made with Marvel’s SECRET WAR along with multiple covers for both Marvel and DC.  Though I have collected his art for years (very hard to get a hold of his European art, btw), I haven’t been able to find a Joker-only piece by him…until recently and this compositon is just incredible.  I stumbled into this beauty at Deviantart, where it was posted by KIOMANDO.  Hope you like it.

In my search for the coolest, niftiest and most awesome Joker art on the net, I stumbled into this beauty.

Today masterpiece comes to us from the SCANS-DAILY site and was posted originally by icon_uk  in August this year. The piece (with no current title) was a commission to artist Al Bigley, artist for the independent comic Geminar. Enjoy and don’t forget to visit our friends from SCANS DAILY to thank them for posting such awesome art.

Browsing on the DC I found this new Brian Bolland book coming out this month. Though Mr. Bolland has done covers for a myriad of  DC series, his most famous work though is still THE KILLING JOKE which was recently reprinted in a special edition. He has done TONS of Joker art to enjoy, I am sure (maybe even a few less seen pieces). Here is the cover and info for the book and what a cover…:

THE COLISEUM OF COMICS, the comic book shop where I have my reservations, invited famed artist MIKE DEODATO JR  for a signing at some of its stores.  I was fortunate enough to get out of work early enough to catch him at his last signing at the Kissimmee store branch. I expected a lot of people, but instead it was just a very familiar and intimate signing in a nice, comfortable environment.

When I arrived, I was the first one in line, and had my collection to sign ready in hand. Mr. Deodato  then arrived, accompanied by his wife and child, and as the signing started, had the chance to shake his hand and tell him how much I enjoyed his art…especially where the Joker was involved.  He was very soft spoken, gentle and down to earth.  With a smile on his face he thanked me and proceeded to sign my comics (Wonder Woman #95-97 and Wolverine Origins).  He was even kind enough to sign my copy of his art book  THE MARVEL ART OF MIKE DEODATO JR. for me.

I wish to personally thank Mr. Deodato for the kindness he shows his fans (and the patience), and to be so casual about everything.  Here are some pics of my experience:

Since today is Scavenger Hunt day for me and my JOKER’S LAIR, I just found myself another treasure.  This nice piece of art comes from CBR and is done by Nick Perks in aswer to the Tweeter:  “Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of the Joker? Only the Shadow knows:

joker-shadow

Do you guys realize that these two are about the same age?  Joker was created inn 1939-40 for the Batman #1 issue while the Shadow revealed  its career as detective on July 31, 1930 as the mysterious voice narrating the radio show THE DETECTIVE HOUR.  That would make them what…75-85 years respectively?  (not taking into account that they were already grown up characters on their 20-30s).  Boy, they look good on their golden years, don’t they? Awesome art, no doubt.

What do you think about this pairing?  (I think that it is at least better than the pairing of Joker and Sherlock Holmes they did on the Clown Prince’s miniseries in the  1975-76, that is for sure.)

Hello guys.

Was reading COMIC VINE this morning and found that G MAN had uploaded  a beautiful piece of Joker art that I wanted to share with you.  It was made by David Aja.  He is a comic book creator and though hee might not be much in the news, his work is extensive.  He has drawn a few things here and there, most known are his work in THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST , MARVEL: YOUR UNIVERSE and Marvel’s 5 RONIN (which I bought and I can tell you that his art is amazing.)  David apparently drew a few sketches at the France Comic Con (and still does them for free…even in this economy).  Some are presented in Comic Vine, but this one caught my attention

 The Joker

I personally love the simplistic use of the lines and the lack of color, limiting himself to the use of red for the lips with an added touch of gloss.  This enhances the smile, which is really the distinctive characteristic of the Clown Prince.   Everything else (including those crazy eyes) fall into the background and the composition reaches a classy finish.  He really knows how to compose his art.

For more of his art you can visit the actual article in comic vine here, or pick some of his comic book titles.  I personally recommend 5 Ronin.  Even if you are not a Marvelite like me, I think you will find the art incredible and the story enjoyable.

Another nice piece of Joker Art also comes from my friends at COMIC VINE and this time the artist Joel Gomez who was  the artist on FLASHPOINT: REVERSE FLASH Oneshot.  Here the take on the Clown Prince is different, much more menacing and with a lot more of class, much like the Joker from the 1990’s. You can see more here . Would you really want to face this guy?  With that look on his face…I would think it  twice.  Wonderful art though…me like it a lot.  Here it is…

AND THANKS TO TONY “G MAN” FOR POSTING THIS WONDERFUL JOKER PIC!!!!

I bought a copy of Alex Ross’ new book ROUGH JUSTICE which is a wonderful collection of rough sketches from this comic book master’s career.  I am including some Joker scans that I found on the book, and will include the quotes that go with it in the book

First is the sketched wraparound cover for Ross’ book.  A common (extreme closeup) image of  Batman  giving Joker a dose of whoop-ass:

These are the Joker turarounds for Justice Action Figures wave 3:

An idea sparked from proposal for  a prestige format titled BATBOY that was to be 2 or 3 issues long.  Basically it was a collection of “imaginary stories about the supersons of Batman and Superman.  The series wanted to explore the next generation of stablished heroes and villains like this picture here of the Joker and his daughter. Unfortunately this idea never saw the light.

At the time Ross worked in the Batman RIP covers, he had many initial concepts including the Joker cover below, but  since he “had missed out on storylines that linked the Joker and Ra’s al Ghul, so the sketches [I] included them in could not be used”  A pitty really because it was a very good idea I think, but then I might be biased since I like Alex Ross’ work and I love Joker.  The two together are just divine.

Well, that’s it hope you folks enjoyed the scans.
