This is a nice gesture of Gamestop to gives us a hint of as to what the Joker’s Carnival map is going to be all about.  It  promises to be a bunch of fun (and the only reasy I bought Arkham City from them). Remember, the map is only available if you preorder the game and we are less than a month apart from the release, so hurry. Here is a preview:

Oh, and don’t forget.  For those fans that PREORDER the game and are members of Gamestop’s POWERUP REWARDS club, the bonus Batman the Animated Series skin is included in the package.  Other skins will be available  in the US with time according to Rocksteady’s marketing department.

Hey Jokerholics,

Our friends at MTV UK, have gotten hold of Jokerdom gold!  They have the brand new ARKHAM CITY JOKER TRAILER and are sharing it with the world at their site.  I saw it and my jaw dropped. In one word, magnificent. Mark Hamill once more steals the show giving us a wonderful and at the same time terrifying view of our favorite psychopath.

Just click on the image and you will be automatically transported to their site.

If only I could take this video as legit…that would be awesome. but I doubt it part of the real game. I know there has been rumors of Joker and Batman eventually joining forces against Strange, but NOWHERE have a seen any video like the one I am about to show you.  Definitely it keeps the Joker-Batman chemistry we are all so used to (reminded me of the Batman Joker confrontation video from DCU Mortal Combat).  For now, just enjoy

It is well knows that besides Joker, Riddler, Two Face and Hugo Strange, there are a myriad of other criminals making an appearance in the new ARKHAM CITY video game.  I found some links to those other appearances and wanted to share it with you all

The first one is the Mr. Freeze trailer.  He seems more of a incarnation of his comic version than his tacky and tasteless self from the Batman  and Robin movie, and we have to thank Rocksteady for the reinterpretation.  This Victor Fries is dangerously ruthless, willing to cross any barrier to get what he wants:  Her lovely Nora. Take a look at the trailer, uploaded by Rise of Nightmares:

Exclusive Hands-on and interview ARKHAM CITY from Play magazine issue 208 September 2011

Be prepared to face the worst of the worst in the New Arkham City.  Rocksteady promises that all the baddies form Arkham Asylum will be back in the sequel (that is Riddler, Joker, Bane) along with new ones (like Hugo Strange, Harvey Two-Face  and Penguin) along with other less common criminals they wished to add to the milieu (like Calendar man, and many others, Rocksteady didn’t allow us to reveal). On Batman’s side, you’ll have Catwoman and Robin helping certain aspects of the game as it progresses.

Some changes have occurred in the game as skills go.  First is the DETECTIVE MODE. This mode can be interfered with, jammed or corrupted by your enemies.  It will be your job then to identify the problem and take it out (it could even be a thug) before you can use the mode again and carry on the game.  The other big change with the detective mode is that instead of being a feature you could use all the time like in Arkham Asylum, this time you will have to sacrifice other important navigation tools while you activate your detective mode.  It’s more of an incentive to use the mode only when you need it than rather timing your session.

Since there are no batmobile in this game (so far Rocksteady has not confirmed or denied the fact), make friends with the GRAPPLING HOOK.  You will need it to glide through the city covering large amount of terrain in less time than on foot.  Aim at a rooftop and tap R1 and you’ll be flying up towards the ledge via the grappling hook but a double tap (and hold) for X before arriving at the rooftop makes Batman kick off at the summit and unleash his wings.

This world is larger, more complex than the experience of Arkham Asylum.  Here make the most to interact with the open environment listening to conversations between gangmembers or police just to get a feel of what’s going on around.

So far, this magazine’s experience with the game left them asking for more and according to the editors, any worries that the sequel “would simply be more of the same and lack any real ambition to improve were cleared with the demo” It is a game that “OOZES ambition, style,  and an attention to detail that can’t help but get us excited.

Judgment on the game:  Batman Arkham City is really, REALLY GOOD!

EDGE:  THE FUTURE OF INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Article summarized from original print of “Dark City”article in EDGE #231 September 2011

Trying to grasp the scope of the new ARKHAM CITY game, the people at EDGE say  that though Batman is just as he was in ARKHAM ASYLUM with the “…same mixture of bruising strength and human fragility”, the developers have …inverted the environment completely.  The first game’s poky madhouse has been plucked from Gotham Harbor and dropped into the rambling streets of the city proper.  Concrete replaces carpets, interiors give way to exteriors, and brilliant, focusing claustrophobia is replaced by something that feels almost like an open-world games at times.”

That being said, this new larger scope of the games will allow Batman to explore skills that were barely used or non-existent in the first game.  Batman will now have a chance to use his forensic skills and analyze crime scenes. Not only that, moves are enhanced for Batman to deal with this new environment, like his new ability to break through flimsy walls to reach targets or the ability to take down two enemies simultaneously and most fun to use will be the ability to use the environment during a fight (rails, walls, lamp posts, etc.)

Rockteady® has also guaranteed that this environment will be filled with Batman DNA, “…we’ve got Batman legacy stuff, obvious nods, and cameos only hardcore fans will notice. We don’t force you to find them all, but if you come across a few, it makes the world feel more real.”

WORLD EXCLUSIVE HANDS ON!  KNIGHT MOVES

Original Article by Corey Cohen appeared in Xbox Magazine July 2011. Pictures are not part of this article but are added as illustration.

The new flight controls for gliding allow for much more control than they did in ARKHAM ASYLUM, being able not only to glide to the street below, but maneuver the glide to increase your reach for hundreds of feet over the city streets. A visit to Crime Alley will land you close to where Bruce’s parents were murdered and you can either leave flowers (accompanied by stirring score) or pick up an audio diary Hugo Strange left your Batman in an effort to mess with his mind.

A new improvement to the Batman’s arsenal will be the range of the GRAPPLE GUN that now allows you to latch to objects more than 150 ft away. The grapple will not only allow you to latch to buildings but if you get tired of gliding around the city you can always grapple onto the skids of a Tyger police chopper and use it like a public bus to take you around.

Full Report originally appeared in PlayStation the Magazine Issue 50, October 2011.  Author: Matt Cabral.

It’s only one a little over a month for the release of Arkham Asylum’s sequel video game (Arkham City) all ready from the marketing to the preview playable demos available out there it promises to be another hit just like its predecessor.  The scale is just…unfathomable.  This time is not just a lunatic asylum but a whole city that is populated by the worst of the worst of the Batman rogue Gallery.  You not only will see Joker, but also Penguin, Two Face, and Riddler playing along with the Bat, to gain supremacy in the food chain of the criminal world.

The October issue of the Playstation Magazine offers an interesting view of what the new with the game.  Here is an excerpt of the whole article by Matt Cabral

With so many baddies involved in this new chapter of the Batman saga, we have reassurance from Dax Ginn, Marketing Manager for Rocksteady, that it will not affect the atmospheric immersion we are used to from Arkham Asylum and we will not have lame characters with stupid lines or plots that do not relate to the whole development of the story.

“Every aspect of the game is character driven.  It was critical during the development of the whole 40 hours of content…Characters, especially villains, need time to breathe; you really need to be able to plumb the  depths of the things that make them interesting.”
