Hey folks,

The second part of DC’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS is out in stores right now.  Have to admit that it did justice to the original story (Mr. Miller, you should be proud!) and Michael Emerson did a wonderful job with the Joker in Miller’s version.  He definitely is what I would have envisioned him to sound like: soft spoken (kind of affeminate) and  unpredictably crazy…

My grading:  4.5 smiles out of 5

 Some Nice Joker Clips!

Oh, and for the true fans, BEST BUY has put out a DARK KNIGHT RETURNS SPECIAL EDITION that includes a miniature of the Joker in the movie:

The buzz is out that WB is acquiring domains with the name Arkham because there are plans of expanding the game with a new Pre-Arkham Asylum game depicting Batman and Joker’s first encounter as well a movie based on the acclaimed game series.

So far it only a rumor, but the move from the WB staff makes this quite suspicious and rises the question:

If they DO make a movie from the Arkham Asylum or Arkham City games, would Mark Hamill (who has officially retired from the character) come back to reprise his incredible and memorable role?

Personally, I hope so.  He started the series, there can’t be any other Joker for this series than him.  Let’s see how these news develop.  In the meantime, read the news excerpt:

Cosmic Book News was the first to tell you about plans for a DC movie universe with the Man of Steel spearheading it all as well as the Justice League movie in 2015 and a Batman reboot tentatively set for 2016.

jokerarkham-city

Regarding the Batman reboot, one detail we were told was that it was being “thrown around” that the movie might be based on the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video game, and that this would be set in the same world as the Justice League movie.

Now, interestingly enough, we learn that Warner Bros. is apparently registering a number of domains with the name “Arkham.”

Fusible.com put it together that Arkham websites are being registered through MarkMonitor, a private domain registrant that Warner Bros. has used most recently on the likes of the 300 sequel.

Some of the domains include: “BatmanArkhamLegend(s),” “BatmanArkhamUniverse,” “DarkKnightArkham” and more.

Of course, it’s also quite possible Warner Bros. is registering these for the third “Arkham” video game as well, which has been said to be a prequel starring the Justice League and featuring Batman’s first meeting with the Joker and a story set in the Silver Age i.e. the 1950s.

(Reprinted from COSMIC BOOKNEWS posted by Mat McGloin 1-12-2013)

This clearly follows up from COSMIC BOOKNEWS orignal report back in September 2012:

…We’re told there are some “mumblings” around Warner Bros. that they may want the Batman reboot (tentatively scheduled for  2016) based on the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video game, and that this would be set in the same world as the Justice League movie.

We’re told DC Entertainment have thought long and hard about having several different universes, but through the success of Marvel, have decided that it wouldn’t make sense to the audience and financially to have numerous actors playing the same roles year by year.

Now if the rumor is true and Warner Bros. does indeed go forth with a new Batman movie based on Arkham Asylum, that brings with it some rather interesting questions.

First off all, the obvious inclusion of the Joker. This would certainly bring up reference to Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. So would Warner Bros. go with it? It could be said that the Joker is a Batman villain, the Batman villain, in addition, the Nolan-verse was its own thing and is over. There is also the fact the added hype having the Joker “come back” would give to the movie. Interestingly enough, the Joker is to make his first appearance in the new DC comic books next month by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. We already know the Man of Steel movie executives have a hand in the Superman comic books, so it’s not that far of a stretch to think the same about the New 52 Batman.

cesarromerojoker01I think it is time to do a homage to the first live action Joker version in the world: Cesar Romero.

Though it might look campy and stupid today, I personally think Cesar Romero did a great representation of the Joker of his times (just read Joker stories from the 1960s)  His representation was funny and very unique, making him I think a unique version to be fondly remembered.

And this fun tribute was made in 2010 by Tonnerdark. Enjoy!

I just found this little promo of a XXX movie recreating (very faithfully) the 1966 Batman movie.  Apologies to the pervs out there, but…DONOT EXPECT ANY SEX SCENES IN THIS PREVIEW…just a look to a very interesting concept, though that is all it will be since acting is relegated to the backseat in these genre.  And the worst thing is this is not the only Batman porn movie with a Joker in it out there in the market (I’ve found at least another two at local adult stores).

Apparently there is a market for this type of movies since I have seen porn version of other famous films, including Avatar. I personally think its hilarious what people can come up with fpr…you know…

In the meantime, enjoy this little preview. Please click on the sexy Joker pic below to be taken to the trailer:

batmanxxx

And yes, this Joker is holding a Star Trek ‘phaser’ in his hand.  Beam him up Scotty!

Holy porn parody, Batman! Featuring the top names in the adult entertainment world, and a production that spared no expenses in faithfully recreating the look and feel of the original, Axel Braun’s long-anticipated “BATMAN XXX: a Porn Parody” is a hilariously sexy spoof of the 60’s Adam West/Burt Ward TV show.

Curious?

We all knew that Nolan was not going to give any reference to Heath Ledger’s character in DARK KNIGHT RISES out of respect, and that with me is fine as I don’t think ‘replacing’ the character with another actor would have been fair for either Ledger’s legacy or the Joker’s presence in the series.  But no one ever said anyting thing of the novelization…right?

And it seems that as a means of adding closure to Nolan’s Joker,  Greg Cox dwells in the idea of what might have happened to him.  Here is ZergNet’s report:

Fans of Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy films might wonder where the insane criminal mastermind ‘The Joker’ had scampered off to when prisoners were freed from the newly constructed Blackgate Prison in Gotham City.  Well, the novelization of “The Dark Knight Rises” may shed some light on the Clown Prince of Crime’s whereabouts.

Scheduled to be released today on-line and in bookstores, the 415 page The Dark Knight Rises: The Official Novelization by author Greg Cox delves into the Jonathan and Christopher Nolan screenplay a little closer.  Original rumors had Heath Ledger’s Joker make a cameo via unused footage from 2008′s “The Dark Knight,” but it panned out as such.  Warner Bros. Studio later confirmed it was just a rumor.  Cox provides better details and lets fans know about the shady and ambiguous fate of the Joker.  Here is the exact quote from the novel .

“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, it (Blackgate Prison) had replaced Arkham Asylum as the preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”

Remember Selina Kyle (Catwoman) was held at Blackgate Prison for a short time.  By using her feminine wiles, she would have had ample opportunity to find out from other inmates the location or whereabouts of the Joker.

From a historical standpoint, Adolf Hitler’s Deputy Leader of the Nazi Party Rudolph Hesswas convicted and sentenced to life in Spandau Prison on Oct. 1, 1946.  He was the sole occupant from 1966 until his apparent suicide in 1987.  By applying this form of punishment to Nolan’s Joker, there would be no one to talk to or play with.  Thus, driving the ‘Man Who Laughs’ into the further depths of his madness.

Note: Greg Cox is the New York Times bestselling author of several hugely popular Star Trek novels. He has also written successful novelizations and tie-ins for Countdown, Infinite Crisis and many more. Cox is a consulting editor for Tor Books and was nominated in 2008 for the Best Speculative Adapted Scribe Award for 52: The Novel.

Maybe is not much information, but by Santa Claus that this quote has sparked my inner writer again in wondering what happened to Joker during those missing years…OH THE POSSIBILITIES…

First things first:

INJUSTICE:  GODS AMONG US:

  • Played the demo for the new DC Video Game INJUSTICE:  GODS AMONG US and it is just to die for.  They had the playable demo with Green Arrow there and also with Catwoman and though it almost look like a rip off of Mortal Combat, it felt really good to punch something.  The graphics are superb and the moves are incredible.
  • Confirmed by one of the guys in the gaming department (and for those that were wondering)  JOKER was announced as a playable character in the game, though no demo of his moves were available to play at this time.  Can’t wait to see what the Clown is capable of.

DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PART 2 PREVIEW AT THE IGN THEATER

  • Saw an incredible preview of the upcoming part 2 of the Frank Miller adaptation of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and though just a little bit of Joker was seen, it was enough to make me smile (they showed scene of Joker in the talk show were he announces he’s going to kill everybody in the audience).  I think that Mr. Emerson is doing a great thing with this character and it is going to be a memorable perfomance.
  • DC announced that the voice of the TV show host in the movie is none other than Conan O’Brien and that he did a great job during the sesion.
  • The two movies were shot back to back, hired 33 voice actors and with each actor doing at least 3 different voices, you can imagine the scope of the production.
  • Talking about the score, Bruce Timm revealed that each character has his own beat.  Batman being mostly techno and synthesizer while Superman is more orchestral in nature.
  • When asked, Bruce Timm said that though he has fulfilled goal of bringing two classics to the small screen (Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns) he still has interests in other classics like HUSH and KILLING JOKE ( no info if any of those are on consideration at this moment, but showing some interest is promising)
  • Other DC Animated projects to be expected for 2013:
    • SUPERMAN UNBOUND:  Based on the Brainiac/ Superman storyline by Geoff Johns
    • JUSTICE LEAGUE FLASHPOINT: DC gets its take on the multititle crossover in one production.  Film could possibly be previewed as soon as San Diego next year.
    • LEGO BATMAN THE MOVIE:  DC HEROES UNITED:  Following the success of the game. Bruce Timm confirmed the relase of the animated movie next year and presented a short but hilarious clip of the movie.  The production promises to satisfy the little kids as much as the big kids. JOINING THE FORCES OF EVIL

I am a Joker fan…   Probably, I’m am one of the most fervent (and craziest) Joker fan in the world since I have created  this site dedicated just to him, uand what happened in Aurora Colorado during the midnight view of the Dark Knight Rises has me outraged and I could not keep shut.

How in the world, James Holmes dares call himself “the Joker” and do this abominable act of violence? I find out that impossible to comprehend and I don’t have a bit of respect for this nut case.  There is no excuse to hurt people. My dislike for him, has escalated to undescribable levels and his actions leaves me with a heavy weight on my soul.

WE, Joker fans are spread through out the world.  We encompass every race, every creed, sexual orientation, every walk of life.  We work with our communities, we might be the nurse  or doctor who cares for you in the hospital, or  the teacher who teaches in you school, maybe the father (or mother) that cares of her loving family, even your best friend, but you will NEVER SEE ANY OF US shooting innocent people  or blowing up places, because we know what is rigth and what is wrong and above the difference between reality and fantasy.

And I want the world to understand…just because we like a character like the Joker does not make us psychos.

We understand this is a fictional character, nothing more and also understand many of the things he does are not right, but we are not any different from those fans of Voldemort or Snape from Harry Potter, Darth Vader from Star Wars, Hannibal Lecter, even Twighlight’s Edward or Hello Kitty. There are just some things about him that appeal to some of us but that does not make us bad people.  And just so you know…

James Holmes IS NOT A JOKER FAN.

He is a very disturbed individual, a sociopath with no sense of apathy for his fellow men.  I feel somewhat sorry for his family, for they will carry the stigma of what he did, but also ask myself…didn’t anybody saw signs of what this man was capable of doing?  These guys have a great deal of difficulty dealing with the world around them.  They are very angry and I can infer in Mr. Holmes’ case, he’s also hurting….from reasons I might never know and decided that others needed to hurt as much he is.  And he didn’t care who it was hurting as long as they hurt too.  They wanted the others to see his pain and he chose a very violent way of doing it.This does not excuse his actions, which should be punished according to law, but there should be also a lesson that this man might have been asking to be heard, long before he went as far as killing fellow people.

He is not the rule of the fandom, he is an exception.

And Finally,

The JOKER’S LAIR wants to emphasize that this place exists only the purpose of entertain, the Joker being the focus of our fandom, but in a non violent atmosphere.  We do not condone violence in any way or directed to any life forms and  we condemn any act of violence, especially this one that should have been avoided.  The LAIR is saddened by the loss of  12 innocent lives.   I,  Jokerlady , moderator of this site want to say that my  heart  goes to the victims (fellow Batfans and maybe Jokerfans too) and their families and I really lament that a night of fun and adventure, turn into a nightmare for the acts of a disturbed individual like James Holmes.  I understand your peain, and I offer you my heart in this sad moment to try and ease your pain.

To those gone, you will not be forgotten and to those that survived but were touched closely by this tragedy, receive my love and my extended  hand in friendship.  My thoughts are with you all in this sad moment.

DC announced that their new animated project will be an adaptation of Frank Miller’s 1986 master graphic novel THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.  The company also announced that they have casted PETER WELLER (Robocop) to voice the Dark Knight, which leaves the question….who could be a good choice to voice the Joker in the story?  I’m dying to know and  I hope that they do make a good choice as the latest voice choices have been in my humble opinion, to put it nicely…less than appropiate for the character.  (Though I have to admit I loved Joe DiMaggio’s voice acting in Under the Red Hood)

Here is DC’s original report and some previews of the animation project:

darkknightreturns00

RoboCop star Peter Weller provide the voice of Batman in Warner Bros.’ animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, the seminal 1986 miniseries by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson, Heat Vision reports. Ariel Winter (Modern Family) will play Robin.

First rumored about a year ago, and then officially announced in July at Comic-Con International, the direct-to-video adaptation will be released in two parts under the DC Comics Premiere Movie banner, which apparently will replaced the five-year-old DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Part 1 will debut in the fall, with Part 2 arriving in early 2013.

Weller and Winter will be joined by veteran actor David Selby (Dark Shadows), Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Two-Face/Harvey Dent, and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases the Joker from the asylum.

The films are directed by Jay Oliva, who not only storyboarded Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but also helmed Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and several episodes of Cartoon Network’s Young Justice. Oliva also has in his corner exectuive producer Bruce Timm, who has overseen most of DC’s animated projects since Batman: The Animated Series.

Dark Knight Returns is the granddaddy of beloved comics properties that we’ve ever attempted [to adapt],” Timm said. “There is definitely the imperative to get it right.”

Set a decade after an aging Bruce Wayne quit crimefighting in the wake of Jason Todd’s death, The Dark Knight Returns brings Batman out of retirement to save Gotham from sinking deeper into decay and lawlessness. With the help of a new, female Robin, Carrie Kelly, the Dark Knight ends the threat of the mutant gangs that have overrun the city and confronts two of his greatest enemies. But then he must face his former ally Superman in a battle that only one will survive.
