Jared Leto and Margot Robbie Share Their Thoughts About Suicide Squad’s Joker and Harley

SuicideSquadJKRandHQfeaturepic2COMINGSOON.COM, Silas Lesnick released an interested bit of an interview with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie talking about what it was playing the Joker and Harley Quinn.  Here is an excerpt of that article:

“I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about that so much,” Leto smiles, “But we walked in a completely new direction. I think we knew that we had to do that. It was important to do that. When the Joker has been done and done so well, it gives you a bit of an indication of where you shouldn’t go. There’s a bit of a map there. That’s the good part about it.”

As a fan of the character himself, Leto is thrilled at the chance to offer a brand-new take on a role that has become something much bigger than the sum of its parts. 

“It’s quite an honor,” Leto continues. “Joker has been written about in pop culture for 75 years. I’m just the latest in the long list of people who have redefined and reinvented this character. The actors, the voice actors, the television series, the writers, the artists and the fans. People have taken the Joker and reinvented and redefined for 75 years. It is really special to be asked to do that.”

Starring opposite Leto is Margot Robbie in the first ever big-screen depiction of psychiatrist turned psychopath, Harley Quinn. While the Suicide Squad Joker may be aiming for a brand-new take, Robbie suggests that what we’ll be seeing from her character is classic Harley.

“I did a lot of research on mental illness and codependency,” she says. “I was trying to access a way in to understanding why she’s so in love with the Joker. I kind of decided that she’s codependent on him. Now that I’ve done the research, I realize that that’s more of an addiction than an illness… You see many sides of her. Sometimes she’s really funny. Sometimes she’s really mean. She just enjoys everything she does. Whether she’s doing something good or bad, she’ll have an equal amount of enjoyment out of it. She’s not always the most likable character.”

New Suicide Squad Trailer 2 … still average, but Jared Leto’s Joker SHINES

SuicideSquaddateOk, so DC decided to release a longer and more comprehensive trailer of the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD movie and though the plot still looks and feels sketchy, making me a little nervous about the success of the movie on the box office (and I measure success as the ability of a movie to amass a great deal of profit after covering costs after showing).  I just hope it does not go the way of the Fantastic Four movie…

My opinion is going to be available in a future post.

On the other hand, in the whole trailer once thing is obvious…Jared Leto’s Joker shone with its own light.  If you can pass the looks and tattoos..it seems a very demanding and physical role for which Mr. Leto seemed very prepared an dedicated (if you have followed his Joker-inspired behavior on the set and social media).  Still, they are keeping most of the Joker action under wraps (as if Joker is a secret weapon or something) but so far the Joker character seems to be the only thing that will pull me to see the movie….SORRY HARLEY…you just could not make it for me, though I’m sure you will be irresistible eye candy for the male fans out there….

This was announced a few months ago by DC Collectibles, but they had not released a picture of the statues, and I had withheld the report until some images were available.  FINALLY, they release the first pictures and please note that they are also releasing a Deadshot and a Killer Croc statue as well and I’m sure more statues of the cast will follow.  With no more delay, these are the first look at the Joker and Harley Quinn statues:

Jared Leto’s Process of Getting into Character Included Weird Gifts for Cast….

It’s now a bit of a tradition — if you play the Joker on film, you have to really get into character. Following in Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s footsteps, Jared Leto — who will debut as Joker in 2016’s “Suicide Squad” — has wasted no time slipping into the mindset of the Clown Prince of Crime. In an interviewwith E! Online, Leto’s “Squad” co-star Adam Beach revealed that the Academy Award-winning actor greeted all of his castmates with some gruesome gifts.

“He sent Harley [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it — a live rat,” revealed Adam Beach, who is reportedly playing Slipknot in the film. “It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”

Since “Suicide Squad” began filming before Leto arrived on set, the actor apparently felt the need to assure his co-stars that he was preparing for the role. This involved sending a “dead hog” to the set, addressed to everyone, with an accompanying video message featuring himself in full Joker mode.

“Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys,'” said Beach. “The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real.”

Beach went on to talk about Leto’s specific rendition of the Joker. “He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?,’ but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear. But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.”

“Suicide Squad” opens on August 5, 2016.

I don’t know…maybe there is hope for this Joker portrayal after all.  I mean if an Oscar winning actor is so invested in his character to do this, maybe we will see a successful characterization of everybody’s favorite psychopathic Clown…ONLY TIME WILL TELL

Director David Ayer Promises MORE surprises despite Batman, Deadshot, Harley, Joker and his ride reveal

219e0e8f76c44732556765f51fb7606eWell, the movie might be done with the chase scenes and some other interesting little surprise scenes that have flooded the INSTAGRAM and YouTube pages but as director DAVID AYER revealed in a recent communication that in spite of the great chase scenes through Toronto streets, this is just a GLIMPSE of what is to come.  Without any further details, he announced that the movie will go dark now as it continues production and that the fans should be alerted that the movie’s surprises have not been spoiled…I just wonder what could be more wonderful than Joker’s ride and more horrendous that that ugly bat trying to vandalize the  Clown’s car, but I trust Mr. Ayer.

And… I personally believe these supposed “leaks” are nothing more than free publicity to increase the fans anticipation for the film..

NOTE:  Still…I am not so sure about the Joker’s look.  I just hope that this is a killer plot with a killer performance by an ACADEMY AWARD WINNER that is going to allow the fans look over those hideous tattoos…YUCK!

I might not be happy with the Joker’s look, but that does not mean I am not excited about the movie as a whole (I mean, it does have an incredible cast in it and it is full of villains. arkhamassaultJOKRI knew that Harley Quinn had made a comeback to the script of the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD live action movie, but the rumors are now that Joker might also make an appearance in the movie (maybe even be the antagonist…hint, hint).  Anyways, didn’t want to post anything until I got a little more info on the whole thing, and the NERDIST has probably one of the best coverage on the subject .  So here is the latest on the rumors…and I hope they are true.

Gee…can’t way to see my puddin’ in the Silver screen once more…wonder if they are going for a reinterpretation of the character or just a comic book clone.  I mean, if Leto is the choice, he’s a very talented Oscar actor. Can’t wait for the first trailer, or picture from the movie set  (*biting nails*).  What do you think?
